Start with cooperation, not control
Many hunters focus too early on commands and corrections. But before your dog can perform reliably in the field, it needs to understand how to work with you — not just obey you. This is what we call the cooperation foundation, and it's the first thing we build in our training programs.
Impulse control is everything
When game is present, even well-trained dogs can fall apart. That's because excitement overrides training — unless impulse control has been specifically practiced in realistic conditions. This is one of the most common gaps we see in hunting dogs that "train well but hunt poorly."
Train in the field, not just at home
Skills learned in a calm environment don't automatically transfer to the hunting situation. Your dog needs to practice cooperation, stay, and recall with real distractions — birds, scents, and movement.
